Travel

Reviews from things we did before we even got into America. The trip from Canberra to Sydney to Auckland to San Francisco.

Air New Zealand
Compared to other airlines I have taken international flights on, they had a smaller selection of movies and television to choose to watch. My usual enthusiasm for airline food waned as well after a meal or two of theirs. Not bad, but there's plenty of better options around.
6 / 10

Bear Grylls Aircraft Safety Video
Everyone's favourite wilderness survivalist starred in the video telling us about the features of our aircraft. Featuring a large fish as his carry on luggage, the video had us in stitches the first time, but staring blankly when we watched it again for the second leg of our journey.
9.5 / 10 (if you only watch it once)
3 / 10 (if you watch is more than once)

The Hobbit
Katie warned us, but Erin and I both watched it anyway. At least it was long enough to chew up a good percentage of our twelve hour flight.
1.5 / 10

Les Gold
Star of TV's "Hard Core Pawn" was spotted at San Francisco airport. There was much excitement. The first of a number of celebrities spotted so far on this trip.
8.5 / 10

San Francisco Customs
Perhaps applies to customs at all US airports. We stood in an enormous line which disappeared around a corner in the distance. We joked that the line might continue around the corner, even though we could see the customs desks just beyond. The smiles were quickly wiped when we reached the corner and found the real line was actually just starting. Over an hour later, we entered the USA.
2 / 10 (that's right, lining up for customs was slightly more enjoyable than The Hobbit)

  1. Les Gold!
Not sure I would give him 8.5/10 but if ever "I is in need of money" if suppose he might make the grade.
    Customs!
Took over 2 hours to cross the border in Denpasar Airport, so consider yourself not too badly off with your SF experience.

Looking forward to many more updates and hope the Boston bombing doesn't cause any grief for your travel plans re increased security, etc.
